How to convert DMG application to PKG

In some cases, a DMG package may not install correctly during deployment with Microsoft Intune. 

This can stem from various reasons. However, there is a simple way to quickly resolve this issue: converting it to the PKG format.

 

Below we will see the procedure for converting a DMG to a PKG file.

Labs :

We will use the Google Chrome package as an example. The PKG will be generated in the previously created folder "/Downloads/PKG". 

Application installation

The first step is to install the application on your Mac.

  • Open the DMG file and move the application to the Application folder

 

 

  • Navigate to the Applications folder, locate the application, and click on the option to read information and retrieve the exact name of the application. 

 

  •   Next, open a terminal and execute the following command: 
    •  sudo productbuild --component /Applications/"Google Chrome.app" ~/Downloads/PKG/"Google Chrome.pkg"

  

  •  Press Enter

 

  • Enter your Password and press Enter 

 

  •  Your PKG package is ready.
  

 Now, all that remains is to import it into Microsoft Intune and then deploy it to your Macs.
